Trigger Finger/Thumb

What is it?

The tendons which move the fingers pass through tunnel like structures called pulleys. Sometimes a swelling develops on these tendons; this swelling can cause pain and a resistance to bending of the finger. This may lead to a painful click when straightening the finger (Triggering)

What is the cause ?

Unfortunately the exact cause is unknown

How is it treated ?

The initial treatment is a simple steroid injection which can be up to 70% curative.

If this fails, surgery to release the pulley is recommended. This is a day case procedure performed under a local anaesthetic.
